This role is for a senior Sybase professional responsible for designing, managing, and supporting complex Sybase database environments. The position involves end-to-end ownership of Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ systems, including architecture design, migrations, upgrades, performance optimization, automation, and BAU operations. The role also requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, exposure to cloud-based database deployments, and the ability to mentor junior team members while ensuring high availability, security, and compliance across enterprise environments.
Provide 24x7 database support for Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ environments, including incident, request, and change management
Design, configure, and manage scalable Sybase database architectures aligned with business requirements
Perform Sybase migrations, upgrades, and legacy modernization initiatives
Automate patch deployments, installations, and routine BAU activities
Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and troubleshooting deadlocks and blockages
Manage Sybase replication for both homogeneous and heterogeneous environments
Implement and manage disaster recovery and resiliency strategies
Handle account management, security configurations, and audit control parameters
Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot Sybase Agent and Autosys jobs
Identify and resolve data corruption issues at page and table levels
Conduct POCs for new features, enhancements, and alternative database technologies
Design and manage cloud-based Sybase solutions and integrations with traditional environments
Prepare and maintain technical and operational documentation and SOPs
Mentor team members and provide technical guidance across projects
Ensure adherence to ITIL processes, including incident and crisis management
8+ years of overall experience in Sybase database administration and operations
Strong expertise in Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ architecture, configuration, and performance tuning
Hands-on experience with Sybase migration and upgradation projects
Experience in automation using shell scripting or similar programming languages
Proven experience in BAU operations for production database environments
Exposure to public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure for database deployments
Strong understanding of ITIL framework and operational best practices
Ability to work in shifts, including 24x7 rotational support when required
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Experience working with cross-functional teams and client-facing environments
