BMC Discovery Developer

Overview

The BMC Discovery Developer is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and maintaining BMC Discovery solutions to automate IT infrastructure discovery, dependency mapping, and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) population. The role involves creating custom discovery patterns, integrating BMC Discovery with enterprise systems, optimizing discovery performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring accurate asset and service mapping. The ideal candidate should have 2+ years of experience in BMC Discovery development, strong scripting skills, and a solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and ITSM processes.

• Develop, configure, and maintain BMC Discovery solutions for automated infrastructure discovery.
• Create and customize discovery patterns, templates, and taxonomies.
• Configure and manage scans, credentials, and discovery schedules.
• Integrate BMC Discovery with CMDB, BMC Helix, Remedy, and third-party applications.
• Troubleshoot discovery failures, data inconsistencies, and performance issues.
• Ensure accurate discovery of servers, applications, databases, network devices, cloud resources, and software assets.
• Develop and optimize custom discovery patterns using the BMC Discovery Pattern Language (TPL).
• Validate and maintain Configuration Items (CIs) and dependency relationships within the CMDB.
• Support application upgrades, patches, and platform enhancements.
• Monitor discovery jobs and optimize system performance.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, network, cloud, and application teams to resolve discovery issues.
• Perform testing, validation, and deployment of new discovery patterns and configurations.
• Prepare technical documentation, implementation guides, and operational procedures.
• Provide production support and resolve incidents within agreed SLAs.
• Ensure compliance with ITIL best practices and configuration management standards.
