Overview
We are seeking an experienced Shopify Theme Developer to support ongoing storefront enhancements, customizations, and feature implementations across Shopify and Shopify Plus environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Shopify Liquid, JavaScript, theme architecture, and responsive frontend development, with the ability to translate designs into production-ready storefront experiences.
This role involves working on custom product pages, navigation systems, storefront functionality, and theme enhancements while adhering to established development workflows and deployment processes. Beyond technical expertise, success in this role requires proactive communication, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to version control and project delivery.
Job Description
- Develop and customize Shopify and Shopify Plus themes using Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Build custom product detail page (PDP) templates and assign templates to specific product groups.
- Implement complex navigation structures, mega menus, and custom storefront experiences based on design references.
- Develop custom frontend functionality including variant selection logic, cart enhancements, and line item properties.
- Ensure responsive and consistent user experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cross-browser compatibility issues.
- Implement Shopify sections and components that allow content teams to manage updates through the Shopify Admin.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to estimate tasks, communicate risks, and deliver enhancements within agreed timelines.
- Follow established GitHub workflows, branching strategies, pull request processes, and deployment practices.
Skills & Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Shopify theme development.
- Proficiency in Shopify Liquid and Shopify theme architecture.
- Experience working with Shopify Plus environments.
- Advanced JavaScript development for storefront customizations.
- Strong CSS, responsive design, and frontend development skills.
- Experience building custom PDP templates, product options, and cart functionality.
- Experience implementing complex navigation and mega menu structures.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards including ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, and focus management.
- Experience with GitHub workflows, pull requests, staging environments, and release management.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to proactively identify and escalate risks or blockers.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Boost Commerce or similar search and filtering solutions.
- Prior agency experience supporting multiple Shopify storefronts.
- Familiarity with Figma-to-Shopify implementation workflows.
- Experience optimizing storefront performance and Core Web Vitals.
