We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer with strong hands-on exposure in manufacturing, shipyard, or marine environments. The role involves working onboard a ship while it is docked at the client’s shipyard in Dubai. The engineer will be responsible for installation, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and controlled/industrial network systems.
Network Installation & Commissioning
Install, rack, and cable network switches, routers, firewalls, and access points onboard ships and within docked shipyard environments.
Perform structured cabling, fiber termination, labeling, and testing as per marine and industrial standards.
Coordinate with shipyard teams for network layout, rack positioning, and equipment mounting.
Network Configuration & Management
Configure Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches (VLANs, trunking, STP, QoS).
Configure routers** for routing protocols, WAN connectivity, and network segmentation.
Implement IP addressing schemes, subnetting, and network documentation.
Configure firewalls and security rules as required for controlled environments.
Work on controlled systems / industrial networks such as:
PLC, SCADA, DCS network connectivity
OT (Operational Technology) and IT network segregation
Ensure secure and reliable communication between control systems, monitoring systems, and enterprise networks.
Understand and follow network redundancy, failover, and safety requirements used in marine and manufacturing environments.
Perform network testing, validation, and commissioning before handover.
Diagnose and resolve network issues related to latency, connectivity, redundancy, and hardware faults.
Support integration testing with automation, navigation, and ship systems.
Prepare and maintain **network diagrams, configuration documents, and as-built drawings
Ensure compliance with **shipyard, marine, and industrial safety standards.
Follow client change management and access control procedures.
Strong experience with network switches and routers (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, or equivalent).
Hands-on experience in manufacturing plants, shipyards, marine vessels, or industrial environments**.
Solid understanding of:
VLANs, routing, subnetting
Industrial Ethernet
Network redundancy protocols
Experience working with controlled systems / OT networks.
Knowledge of network security best practices in industrial setups.
5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer
Proven experience working in manufacturing, marine, or shipyard projects.
Prior experience working onboard ships or offshore/on-site industrial locations is highly preferred.
Ability to work in confined and controlled environments.
Strong coordination skills with cross-functional teams (automation, electrical, shipyard staff).
Clear communication and documentation skills.
Willingness to travel and stay onsite for the project duration.
Experience with marine communication systems.
Knowledge of IEC / ISO standardsrelated to industrial or marine networking.
Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
