Senior Exchange / Messaging Engineer (Project Lead)

Overview

The Senior Exchange Engineer will lead the end-to-end migration from Microsoft Exchange 2016 to Exchange SE. This is the primary technical role responsible for architecture, execution, and sign-off across all migration phases.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
 
Design and implement the target Exchange SE architecture including DAG configuration (mailbox servers, activation preferences, witness servers)
 
Lead the build of the new Exchange SE environment including virtual directories, SSL certificates, and client access configuration
 
Plan and execute database layout, namespace strategy, and coexistence configuration
 
Manage hybrid centralized mail flow during the coexistence phase
 
Oversee batch mailbox migrations with throttling, including system mailboxes, arbitration mailboxes, and public folders
 
Lead the namespace cutover, coordinating DNS and load balancer changes
 
Run Exchange HealthChecker, validate DAG replication, and conduct HA/DR failover tests
 
Produce technical documentation, runbooks, and post-migration handover materials
 
Required Skills
 
Deep expertise in Microsoft Exchange 2016 and Exchange SE (Subscription Edition)
 
Strong DAG design and management experience across multi-server environments
 
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for Exchange automation and migration tasks
 
Experience with SSL certificate management and virtual directory configuration
 
Hands-on experience with HA/DR planning and failover testing
 
Strong understanding of mail flow, transport rules, and journaling
