Seeking a GCP FinOps Engineer with strong expertise in cloud cost optimization, automation, monitoring, and governance. The role involves building cost optimization pipelines, implementing tagging and budgeting strategies, automating resource management, optimizing BigQuery and GKE workloads, and developing dashboards, forecasting, and anomaly detection solutions across GCP environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Build tag-driven start/stop automation for non-production and idle workloads.
Identify and remediate idle, stale, and orphaned resources such as unattached disks, unused IPs, stale snapshots, and unused datasets.
Build VM and workload right-sizing pipelines using Cloud Monitoring metrics.
Analyze CPU, memory, disk, network, storage, and billing data to recommend optimization actions.
Implement and monitor mandatory tagging across project, owner, cost center, environment, application, and business unit.
Build FinOps dashboards and scorecards using BigQuery billing export and Looker Studio.
Configure budget alerts, threshold alerts, and environment-level cost caps.
Support CUD/SUD planning through usage analysis and cost optimization scenarios.
Build cost anomaly detection using historical billing baselines.
Build predictive cost forecasting using billing, utilization, and growth data.
Implement storage lifecycle policies across Standard, Nearline, Coldline, and Archive tiers.
Optimize BigQuery usage through partitioning, clustering, materialized views, slot usage analysis, and query anomaly detection.
Required Skills:
Hands-on GCP experience.
Strong understanding of GCP billing, billing export to BigQuery, labels, tags, budgets, CUDs, and SUDs.
Hands-on experience with Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, GCS, BigQuery, Cloud Monitoring, and Cloud Logging.
Strong BigQuery SQL skills including scheduled queries, partitioning, clustering, and cost optimization.
Python scripting experience using GCP client libraries.
Experience building automation using Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, or scheduled jobs.
Working knowledge of Terraform for tagging, provisioning, and governance.
Experience with Cloud Monitoring dashboards, alerting policies, and log-based metrics.
Understanding of GKE cost optimization including requests, limits, HPA, VPA, and node pool optimization.
